Wooton 02/09/06

   1-3

Our humble village friends Wotton st George provided the opposition in a blustery away encounter. Jack O’Berne returned to the squad but could only get a place on the bench as docs continues to impress up front, Which meant the starting 11 was unchanged from the Clipston game. After, newly appointed captain Scott Davanagh, lost the toss of the coin we where pitted against the strong wind that was sweeping in towards us for the first half (mental note to docs, that is what you call a wind unlike that fake wind in the Clipston game that only you could feel). Like we always do we tried to keep the ball on the deck and in such conditions it is only right to try and play patient passing football, but it soon became clear as crystal that Wotton where gonna keep hammering the ball in the channels and as the wind picked the ball up it was causing havoc for the wing backs and centre half’s. However we started the brightest and around the 20th minute we took a brilliantly deserved lead, Wotton where slack up front as Scott Mcblain intercepted a lose ball and squared it to me I knocked it inside to Scott Davanagh who found docs inside him, Docs picked the ball up just inside the Wotton half and ran through several challenges before unleashing a wonderful left foot drive from just outside the box, as the ball found its way in to the bottom corner our beloved doco was already celebrating in front of the cameras. We knew straight away that Wotton weren’t keen on flair players running at them and Gibby hit an effort against a defender, that shot up in the air just outside the box, docs was underneath it and managed to lob a shot in, the keeper came scrambling across his line to tip it on to the bar and over for a corner, Gibby swung in a sweet left foot corner that found Scrivs unmarked and destined to score but only to blaze over the bar. Wotton did hit back just before half time as a foul on one of their wingers just on the right of our box gave them a chance to send in a dangerous ball, but in my opinion the player totally miss hit the ball as it screamed along the floor, I stuck a boot out only for it to bobble over me and through Scott Davanagh’s legs and creep in as Rooney tried in vein to get to it. To be honest Wotton pressured us for the last 10 minutes of the half without really testing us and unlucky for them there was only one way the result was going once we had the wind on our side.

SECOND HALF

We came out optimistic and as soon as the whistle blew to start the game we where back in the lead, Scrivs found Gibby down the wing and he turned and ran at there left back, he hit a tame shot that cannoned back of the Wotton player and Gibby didn’t need any encouragement to hit it again and the ball fizzed in to the right hand joint of the frame to make it 2-1. It was good night Vienna for Wotton as we began to go to town on the home team, Docs broke the offside trap at the halfway line, as he raced forward the keeper came rushing out I ran beside him and he selflessly squared the ball and I tapped it in the empty net only to find the cheating linesman deny me my first of the season. Docs then hit the bar again with a lobbing effort. We found another goal around the 75 minute through the superb doco, he raced on to a through pass and belted a low hard left footed drive beyond the blameless keeper and send the tashed one into delirium. Almost straight away docs went on another mind bending run as the clumsy goalkeeper barged through him without ever getting near the ball, surely a penalty, but the ref thought otherwise. Any way another easy win in the end and Adrian of green managed to give everyone a run out which is good for morale I suppose. Back to the Fisher for a delightful plate of Sausage and chips and to the news that the tartan army put 6 past the faroes, It cant get any better.
