Scott Davanagh inspires Fisher Win

The lads returned to the real stuff yesterday after a long successful pre season. With a few additions to the squad from last season, there is a real buzz about woods end that the team can go on and complete 2 in a row and progress to division 1. The competition in this league will be a lot sterner than last season but as I have said, (being a committee member), time and time again that better competition will bring the best out of us and that proved to be the case yesterday, not many teams will get a result out of blisworth let alone drub them 3-0 in there own back yard. One suspects there team where full of ex ucl players after blisworth ucl team disbanded and dropped into the combination league, rumours where rife that they tried to put them straight into the premier ship but they refused so surely this was set to be an absolute corker of a match and it proved to be. Adie lined up with his tried and tested 3-5-2 formation with the addition of 3 new faces to the squad from last season. Young Edward has been in the sporting chance clinic in London trying to overcome his demons, so le gaffer gave him an authorised leave of absence but he was able to attend and offer his support. He was replaced by Paul Wright aka picey, also new signing  Danny Mcblain who is the nemesis younger brother of Scott Mcblain, came in for dado adding much more depth to the squad. Young Chad came through the youth system to replace Steve Melvin. The starting 11 was Rooney in goals behind the dependable defence of Young bash, Scott Mc and the big man stich…. I mean Scrivs (lol) sweeping and moping up. Piceystarted at left wing back with moany faced me on the right, Scott davanagh, Oags and Steve all started in the centre with the gibster and jack up front leaving Chad, Docs and Danny on the bench. . The game kicked of in the driving rain as blisworth made there intentions clear to have as many up front as they can and punt it up from the back but to no avail as the back three where wise to it. Our first chance came courtesy of a rapid counter attack when bash found picey down the left and he charged forward and put a ball in towards jack who dummied it for me to run onto, I should have hit it first time but decided to square it for Steve who was suspiciously caught of side. Then came the goal neat play from Oags won a free kick from wide left of the blisworth box and Gibby sent in a superb ball for Scott davanagh to rise and beat the keeper to the ball and send it into the net to send the in mates wild with passion. Blisworth where rattled and we should have netted again when Gibby raced clear courtesy of a exquisite jack through ball but the keeper came and made himself look big and Gibby leathered it of his chest and the shaky defence managed to clear. They did manage to pressure us just before half time but when Rooney was called into action it was from our own player, blisworth punted the ball towards goal and Scrivs came racing out to volley it clear but he totally mistimed it and the ball skidded of his boot and looked to be looping in until Rooney stretched himself to the limit and tipped it on the bar and bash leathered it clear, Just then you knew it was going to be our day and we went in 1-0 to the better. The funniest comment of the day came from none other than Edward Charles sudden during the half time pep talk, after Adie had finished barking orders the room fell silent and was brokeing to “ more importantly than that what pub we going to” there’s no damping the big mans spirit. We came back out bursting with energy in the second half and we didn’t give blisworth a single solitary sniff at our three white sticks draped in some sort of wiry, mesh net thing ( the goal). Steve sudden was tackling anything that moved and he almost made it 2-0 when he robbed the defender and smashed a shot low and hard to the keepers left but he was equal to it and turned it around the post. However we soon increased our lead 10 minutes later when I won a throwing down the left and quickly played in Gibby who then won a corner, his corner found Scrivs totally unmarked and he bulleted a header in to the roof of the net and the faithful went nuts with delight again. Scrivs then gave Rooney another scare when he screwed a clearance of the top of his boot again and it hit the side of the net ( we will put it down to the wet weather big fella a) never mind Rooney was dominating anything that came in to the box. Jack boy then went close when he forced the keeper into a good save. Then the moment of the match that won Scott davanagh the man of the match award, Oags played zipping pass into the feet of Scott in the box and he done some sort of mad flick around the defender and ran the other side of him ( like bergkamps  against Newcastle) to meet the ball and nailed a shot against the keeper but the ball fell back to scotts feet and he drilled the shot between 2 defenders to make it 3-0 it really was compelling viewing as no one could believe what they had witnessed. Gibby was getting increasingly frustrated (with good cause) as the linesman kept flagging him of side even though on 2 occasions he ran from his own half. But blisworth offered nothing more as we overpowered them and docs ( who replaced Steve before the third goal) managed to get a shot of that the keeper was forced to save. Danny mc and Chad came on for me and picey for the last 10. The game was over and won we could all go out with great big smiles on our faces but there’s still a whole season ahead of us. There was 14 motm performances out there but Scott davanagh just edged ahead of Steve by one vote and that one was by Steve him self so there you have it. I dare anyone to beat us this season, go on I double dare you.
